Cherry, Macassar Ebony, Gabon Ebony

This was a gift for my beloved, an Art Deco inspired vanity set. It was the most complex piece I had undertaken at the time, I learned a lot as I worked through it. Its completion was a major accomplishment for me and inspired confidence to continue novel forms and push my boundaries.

Cherry is a favorite species of mine. It is warm and ages from pink to red as it catches sunlight. This figured cherry was particularly pleasing to me--the backrest of the chair shimmers. I am routinely tempted to pair it with Macassar Ebony for contrast and to offer a greater sense of luxury to the familiarity of cherry. The ebony also offers a very satisfying tactile quality--it is hard, cool, and waxy almost like a polished stone.
