About
Woodworker, designer, architect
I am moved to make things and wood is my dearest medium. Historical pieces, specifically Art Nouveau are my greatest inspiration. I am a collector and appreciator of design. I have always been moved by the pleasure of interacting with beautiful objects. Investing care and intention in our daily operations is simply a joy. My aim is to create an object that its user will relish daily--admire its beauty, enjoy its smoothness, breathe its fragrance.
Character is a driving element in my design process--I seek to imbue each object with its own sense of character, attitude. Whimsy comes to mind, these aren't utilitarian objects--they are meant to please, amuse. I aim for a certain brevity or concision in this effort--I am indulgent only to a point. I appreciate the intricacies of historical work but seek to distill something more succinct and idiosyncratic, or at least less temporal.
I have spent most of my life in study; classical literature, architecture, and craft. My last and perhaps most meaningful experience was at the Krenov School, formerly known as College of the Redwoods. Here I honed my intuition, sensibility, and sensitivity to wood. It is with this attentive care that I design and realize each piece. My work is intimate, I have touched and carefully worked every surface with my hands.
While I have some readymade items shown in my webstore, I am very happy to discuss any potential projects you may have in mind.
